Getting in the door!

Don't you agree the personal touch is disintegrating?  When we seem to make things easier (using the internet) we make things harder.  I have a process that works using the personal touch.  I use the Internet for research on people and companies I will be meeting with.  I do not use the Internet to apply for a job.  I experimented with 7 LinkedIn adds for jobs.  All either in my industry or field of expertise.  At least two of the companies knew me personally.  I did not get one response.  Not even "don't call us, we will call you".

What I did do with one of the job postings was research the company.  Then I searched on LinkedIn for people who worked for that company.  I looked for senior executive job titles in the department or area I was interested in.  I contacted the senior executive with a personal email and phone call and I received a response the same day.  What is interesting is that we do not realize that hiring is important to the senior executives and not so much to the person who manages the online postings.

I truly believe as a job applicant you must go to work everyday researching and contacting people personally.  Set a goal to contact 20 people that interest you directly each day and not job postings.  At the end of the week with a 100 contacts you will have at least 5 interviews guaranteed.

I hope this may help!
